New artists randomly pop up all the time and we call these industry plants, but what are industry plants? An industry plant is an artist that claims to be a ‘homegrown startup’ to appear organic but is put forward by a major record label with the soul prepose of making as much money as possible. The hip hop artist Doechii has been accused of being one of these industry plants due to seemingly coming out of nowhere, however, I don’t believe this is true.

Doechii has been making music since 2015, recording them at her friend’s house and releasing them on Sound Cloud, she has also been documenting her musical journey. I can see why people would believe Doechii is an industry plant, shortly after her song Yucky Bucky Fruitcake song went viral in 2021 on Tik Tok she signed with a record label called Top Dog Entertainment.

Why is she only now getting the recognition she deserves? It seems the label DIDN’T push her career since signing her straight away, and has spent time nurturing her before her latest album release, in 2022 she did an interview with Breakfast Club Power, and she did a couple collabs, with an artist call Kodak Black called What It Is.
Doechii work is a very unique and I am looking forward to her career progressing, and fans need to understand that the music industry has changed significantly over the last few years when it comes to A&R and it is now normal for record labels to scout for talent on Tik Tok.
