The Last Dinner Party

The all-girl group Last Dinner Party only started getting famous last year after signing with Island Records and releasing their debut single Nothing Matters, which became a top 20 UK hit! They also won the Rising Star Brit award in December 2023 and have performed live on the American prime time The Late Show.

Their performance on stage is something quite spectacular, from the way they move to their outfits, its New Romantic meets Ziggy Stardust. They remind us why we go to see a band live....not just listen to them on our favourite streaming service.

But don’t make the mistake of thinking this on-stage persona is to hide poor songwriting. Their song Nothing Matters is no doubt the song that made them as big as they are, the gritty and unusual lyrics are enticing and nothing short of amazing, illustrating the power of a woman in control. The band’s combined vocals are hauntingly beautiful and draw you in from the first couple words, they kind of remind me of the band First Aid Kit, you can definitely tell they take a lot of inspiration from them with hints of Americana.

There has been speculation about them being ‘industry plants’ and a ‘manufactured’ band, they have, however, rightly squished these rumours saying it’s a “nasty lie”. For me personally, I can attest to them ‘paying their dues’, they have been in the UK music scene long before they signed with Island Records, playing in small venues such as Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes and I’m sure they will be around for years to come.
