The 2024 Grammys was definitely one to remember, with multiple female artists winning their first Grammy, Taylor Swift made history by winning Album of the Year 4 times! The majority of the major awards went to female artists, which is a big step toward changing how women are treated in the music industry.

Miley Cyrus had a massive milestone in her career by winning her first Grammy ever for her song Flowers, in the category ‘Record of The Year’. Victoria Monét won her first Grammy as well for ‘Best New Artist’! Boygenius won their very first Grammy for their album The Record, in the category ‘Best Alternative Music Album’. Paramore was also the first female-fronted band to win ‘Best Rock Album’ and country artists Lainey Wilson and Karol G were the very first women to win ‘Best Musica Urbana'. Which, for anyone who doesn’t know, this is HUGE since the stereotype surrounding the genre is “men’s music”.

Billie Eilish also made history by winning her 9th Grammy for her song ‘What Was I Made for’, in the category ‘Song of the Year’. And Taylor Swift was the first artist EVER to win ‘Album of the Year’ 4 times! And is still the only female artist to win it more than twice, she won it with her album Midnights.
Throughout previous years of the Grammys, we have seen a very small incline of female artists getting recognised for their work, this is slowly changing however, as we have seen with this year’s Grammy. With the majority of winners being female artists this shows the continuous change in how women are treated in the music industries and the fact that they are finally getting awarded for their work. It's also proving that if we continue to speak up about how female artist get treated in the music industry, then it can make a difference.
