The recently concluded Eras Tour was one of the biggest shows in the world, selling out stadium after stadium and it dominated pop culture for 2 years! The social and economic impact it had was astronomical, with each concert bringing significant revenue to the city’s she played in. City’s who had multiple dates saw millions of pounds in spending alone. Taylor Swift brought in an extensive amount of revenue from her tour, even giving $197 million in bonuses to her tour crew, including dancers, lorry drivers, lighting/sound and many more.

Throughout the duration of her tour, Taylor Swift used her platform to advocate for LGBTQ+ and women’s rights. She told story’s that a lot of young girls could related to, emphasising on empowerment and personal growth.

Her tour also ushered in the phenomenon of the term ‘Swiftenomics’, even giving rise to new degrees in multiple universities across America, for example Harvard University has a course called “Taylor Swift and Her World”, which is an English course taught by Stephanie Burt, and it covers Swift’s catalogue, songwriting, fan culture and more.
However, due to Taylor’s success and the fact that she racked up an extensive amount of profit, there is now a misconception within the mainstream media that all artists and bands make money from touring but that just isn’t the case. Kate Nash said in an interview with BBC 6 music that she lost about 50 grand in her recent North American tour, she is still playing decent sized venues and selling them out, however, it doesn’t cover the costs.
